Hi Mom!William M. Byrd, Seattle, Washington, 15 May 1998 Mr. Byrd was collecting signatures for the medical marijuana initiative; we approached each other at the same time. He was befuddled at first ("You want me to what? You sure?") but was happy to play along, didn't even flinch at signing the model release, until he got to the address line. "Uh oh. I don't know what my address is here." "That's OK, you can just put your address at home." "Well, I don't really have a permanent address. I tell you what, my girlfriend is collecting signatures over there, let's go find her. You might even want to get her picture too." We covered a three-block radius looking for her, but no luck. Mr. Byrd eventually decided that she must have been looking for him, so he might as well give me the old address that was on his driver's license. He explained that he travels around collecting signatures for a variety
of initiatives, "medical marijuana, gun control, stuff like that. It's
pretty interesting but it gets old sometimes. Some days you just don't
want to get out there and talk to anyone." |
